About Lucy Tallents

Founder and Director

I created VerdantLearn in 2018 to make conservation capacity-building more equitable

Before establishing VerdantLearn, I created and taught the Postgraduate Diploma in International Wildlife Conservation Practice and related online courses at Oxford University’s Wildlife Conservation Research Unit (WildCRU). I have also taught courses in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu), and China (Beijing’s Forestry Institute), and for Oxford University’s Environmental Research Doctoral Training Partnership and Department for Continuing Education

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and earned my DPhil at WildCRU researching the behavioural and spatial ecology of Ethiopian wolves

I have been working as a consultant since 2000, with clients including conservation charities such as WWF and FFI, academic institutions, and individual researchers and conservation practitioners

You can find out more about me on my socials below, and visit my blog at blog.lucytallents.net

Finally, I want to thank you, my students 💚 The more I teach, the more I learn from you. I learn from:

  • Your lived experiences
  • What motivates you
  • Your questions
  • Your curiosity, and
  • Your approaches to tackling challenges and determining your next steps

You inspire me to create better courses that will help you reach your conservation goals! 🙏
